Strahan

Welcome to Strahan, situated on the rugged West Coast Of Tasmania, from where the World Heritage areas can be seen overlooking Macquarie Harbour, an area much of which man has never set foot upon.

Cruise Macquarie Harbour, see Hells Gates at the mouth of the Harbour, the fish farms, visit Sarah Island and see how the convicts and piners lived many years ago. Visit the Gordon River and be amazed at the reflections in the water, see the 1,000+ year old Huon Pine trees growing in their natural environment untouched for centuries.

Visit Bonnett Island and check out the penguins, see the 120 year old light house and where the lighthouse keepers worked and raised their families in isolation from the rest of the world.

Take a trip into history on the West Coast Wilderness Railway, marvel at how the Abt Railway was built in the days when picks and shovels were the tools used and how the workers lived in the conditions that cannot be imagined.

Visit the Huon Pine Mills and smell the unique Huon Pine oil that gives the timber a distinctive smell. See the golden coloured timber that is famous around the world as an extremely durable boat building timber and a beautiful furniture timber.

See how a piece of wood can be turned into a beautiful masterpiece at Wilderness Woodworks Strahan.

For an unforgettable experience travel the rain forested gorges of the King River.View the remains of the once bustling river port of Teepookana in the safety and comfort of the Wild Rivers Jet Boat
